Synthetic lubricants are produced with a combination of low molecular-weight materials with a chemical reaction to produce materials with a high molecular-weight. The chemical reaction helps to provide synthetic lubricants with uniform consistency and targeted performance properties. Mineral-based lubricants do not exhibit the consistency and uniformity like synthetics lubricants exhibit, nor do they have the performance properties. Synthetic lubricants are generally wax-free; thus they can be used at very low temperatures. Moreover, synthetic lubricants are customized and the molecular sizes are kept more uniform than mineral-based products which help to provide greater film strength and lubricity than mineral oils.
